Flag Football Info

The spring and fall leagues are for kids (boys and girls) from Grades 1-8.

The spring season kicks off May 1st 2014 and the season ends June 21st, 2014.

In the spring, 2 games are played per week starting from Monday-Thursday, and everyone plays on Saturdays.

The fall season games are played once per week on Saturdays.

The divisions are broken down as follows:

  • Colt (Gr. 1-2) division plays Monday and Saturday
  • Stampeder division (Gr. 3-4) Tuesday and Saturday
  • Hilltop division (Gr. 5-6)  Wednesday and Saturday
  • Huskie division (Gr. 7-8) Thursday and Saturday

For both registration dates, Tyler Baier, our Flag Football Coordinator, will be in attendance with a laptop for parents to sign up on. Parents can pay using any credit card on the Saskatoon Minor Football website, or by cheque.

Remember that WUHCA Fun Day in the Park we had in September? Face painting, bouncy castle things all over the place, the art caravan, the balloon guy. Yeah, that was fun.

Did you know that the Aurora Soccer girls that were working that BBQ did $2300 in sales with a profit of over $1400?
We thought that was pretty great. Thanks again for coming out to the once/year party that we host for our community members, and for contributing to community soccer teams.

Willowgrove School Info Nights

Two Willowgrove School information meetings have been planned for Monday, November 25th and Wednesday, November 27th in the LRC at Centennial Collegiate.

The meetings are planned from 7pm – 8:30pm. We will have refreshments and grade 8 students to provide childcare if needed. We will bring information and updates about Willowgrove School, share plans for future consultation meetings, and gather feedback about topics for future consultation.

Both sessions will cover the same information so choose the evening that is most convenient for you

We are excited to see the new Holy Family Catholic School taking shape in the Willowgrove neighborhood.  Construction will be complete next year and students are scheduled to be welcomed to the school in 2014.

Holy Family will adjoin a child-care centre operated by Preston Early Learning Centre, which will be situated between Holy Family and Willowgrove Public School.

Your input is important to help determine the programming and identity of our school.  We would like to continue the consultation process and share information by offering three upcoming meeting times:

Willowgrove Public School Principal – Shane Armstrong:

Willowgrove Public School will open in the fall of 2014 for students from Kindergarten to grade 8. Construction continues at a steady pace with many crews on site. The goal of the general contractor Ellis Don is to complete all exterior work before the cold weather arrives. The Public School Division is currently in the planning stages of staffing, parent engagement meetings, ordering, and enrolment projections for Willowgrove School. Please check the site regularly for new information.

Totus Soccer – Youth Program

This project is a collaboration of Saskatoon Open Door Society and Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc.

We would like to invite you in celebrating the growing diversity in our community through soccer – Totus Soccer!

Totus Soccer is a celebration of soccer and inclusion!  Training and friendly competitions will be held in Saskatoon in neighborhoods with high concentration of newcomers, First Nations and soccer enthusiast. Totus Soccer visits these communities twice daily during the week of August 19-24.  The objectives of this project are to:

  • Engage newcomer and First Nations/Métis youth and their families in the community through celebration of soccer
  • Develop soccer skills while promoting sportsmanship and friendship
  • Promote diversity within the soccer community in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan
  • Create increase awareness of and accessibility of soccer in Saskatoon

This initiative will bring communities together through food, music and prizes.  Totus is street soccer never before done in Saskatoon!

We would like to invite your participation in promoting the project to your community.  We have attached a poster that can be used in advertising it to youth.  Please let us know if you have any other questions.  Thank you very much for your attention.

Community Garden in Forest Grove

A community garden is being started in the green space east of Forest Grove Community Church. Gardeners will plant, maintain, and harvest their produce together for themselves and their families. A communal plot will also be planted to support the Bridge on 20th Fellowship Centre. Spring Sports Field Use – Important Notice

Due to the unseasonably cold weather, the start of soccer and ball season has been delayed. The City of Saskatoon has asked everyone to stay off the fields until they came be properly groomed. At this time we do not have an anticipated start date. We will keep everyone updated as we know more information. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. In May, we will again sponsor the Annual WUHCA Area Garage Sale. This will be the third year we orgainzed the Garage Sale and it is great to see it growing larger every year.

A lot of residents were able to take advantage of the advertising and clear out some of their unwanted items. I am certain that 2013 will see another great response, so start cleaning out those closets now!

2013 Outdoor Soocer Registration is Closed

Thank you for registering your child in the 2013 outdoor soccer season. Registration is closed for this season.  We are unable to take any late registrations at this time.  Please look for the registration night for the 2014 season in Februrary 2014.

2013 Outdoor Soocer Season

Thank you for registering your child in the 2013 outdoor soccer season. The season starts the first week of May and runs to the end of June

The schedules for under 6, 8 and 10 are compiled by Saskatoon Youth Soccer and are released the end of April.  We will have your coaches forward the schedules to you as soon as they are released.  Please be aware that we cannot accommodate requests for specific days to play.  The following guidelines for days of play are given to us by SYS:

Under 6 – Monday or Tuesday and/or the odd Friday

Under 8 – Wednesday and Thursday and/or the odd Friday

Under 10 boys – Mondays and Wednesdays and/or the odd Friday

Girls – Tuesday and Thursday and/or the odd Friday

We cannot guarantee placement of your child on a certain team.  We will try and accommodate requests, please mark these on your registration form.  We cannot switch players once teams are made

We are always looking for coaches and assistant coaches.  Please consider volunteering!

University Open House

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 Sutherland Hall, 1112 Central Avenue 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (come and go)

The City’s Planning and Development Branch, Transportation Branch and Land Branch will be hosting a joint public open house to introduce the following proposed projects: 1.    University Heights Sector Plan Amendments; 2.    UH2 Neighbourhood Concept Plan; 3.    North Commuter Bridge Alignment; 4.    Updated Design of the Central Avenue and Attridge Drive Intersection;and 5.    Design of a new interchange at McOrmond Drive and College Drive.

Displays will be set up for each of the above projects and City staff will be available to answer questions and to gather your feedback.

Warning – Coyotes Spotted in Wallace Park

Saskatoon Police Service – News Release #2013-0132 – Public Advisory – City Wildlife Sightings – What To Do

Saskatoon Police are again reminding concerned residents what to do in the event of a coyote sighting within the City.

Although there have been no reported physical encounters, Police and City officials are reminding people to keep their distance from coyotes and all wildlife as they can be unpredictable when confronted. In most cases, coyotes and other wildlife are harmless and will move along.

Here is what to do if you have a close encounter with a coyote: -Never approach the animal -Look for, and keep an eye on, a way out -Make some noise so it maintains a healthy respect for humans -Back away, do not turn your back or run

If you have any questions or concerns, or wish to report a coyote or wildlife sighting, please contact City of Saskatoon Parks Pest Management at 975-3300.

Residents are asked to only contact Saskatoon Police at 975-8300 in instances where wildlife appears to be injured or acting in a manner dangerous to the public.

Two New Schools For Willowgrove!

On March 18th, 2010 the provincial government announced a new public and private school under one roof for the Willowgrove neighbourhood. Today, the project entered the approval-in-principle stage and receives funding to complete the preparation of detailed plans and specifications, which must be completed before construction can begin. The schools could open as soon as the fall of 2013.

On June 6th the Community Association is planning a “Fun Day in the Park”. This is an opportunity to get out and meeting with your neighbours. Some of the planned events include face painting, balloon animals, and a large jumper. Food will also be available at a nominal cost.

Public Consultation – Willowgrove Catholic Elementary School

A public meeting will be held Monday May 17 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the cafeteria at St. Joseph High School (115 Nelson Road). The general concept plan for the new Catholic school in Willowgrove will be presented. Community members will be asked for their input on the plan and on programs to be offered at the school. Staff from Greater Saskatoon Catholic schools will provide a general overview of the planning process and share information about construction timelines.

Community Watch Program

At the May 19th Community Association meeting Constable McAvoy will be speaking about the Neighbourhood Watch Program. If you want to get involve or learn more about the program please plan to attend.

Thanks to everyone who attended the November 25th Public Meeting regarding the Willowgrove Schools project. To further the project, the Community Association is encouraging all community members to write a letter, email, etc., to Mr. Ken Krawetz Minister of Education, to show your support for both a Public and Catholic school in our Community.
