Second Registration Night

If you missed our soccer, ball & football registration night last night, no worries! There is another one on Feb 27th @ 7-8:30pm. There are no limits for children registering as long as we have volunteer coaches! Please consider coaching!

Holy Family School Important Update

We are working with our contractor to get Holy Family School completed as quickly as possible so that students can begin school in September 2014. However, this is a tight timeline.

Because we know that there can be unforeseen events in construction – such as poor weather – it is prudent to develop a contingency plan in case the school is not ready.

We will work with the Holy Family School community to put these plans in place. We will discuss the options with you – with the main focus on doing what is in the best interests of the students, your kids. We believe it will be important to keep the school community together and will explore options that allow us to do that.

It is always exciting to be building a new school and though there may be hurdles to overcome as Holy Family is completed, we are committed to working with you through this process until our wonderful new school is built and ready for students.

Holy Family School Update

Registrations – We are now accepting formal registrations for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.  Registration forms are available on our Holy Family website or at one of our 3 feeder schools (St. Volodymyr, Fr. Robinson and Mother Teresa).  They can be returned to those locations or can be emailed to ctenaski@gscs.sk.ca.

Please note: a copy of a birth certificate or baptismal certificate is required for Kindergarten students.  Also if children are non-Catholic, a Student Declaration of Intention form must be completed.

Preschool The Request for Proposals went out on February 4th with the deadline for submissions on February 19th. The Parent Selection Committee will review submissions and the selection of a Preschool Operator will be made by March 3rd.  Shortly after, the registration process will be determined.  If you wish to be added to the Selection Committee, please email ctenaski@gscs.sk.ca.

Creative Playground – Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 6th 7pm in St. Volodymyr library.  Come join this enthusiastic group to create an awesome playground for our children!

Willowgrove School Update

Planning continues to prepare Willowgrove School for a September, 2014 opening. The preschool committee is working to start a preschool program in the fall, and is working with current preschool operators to select an organization that will run the program. As more information comes available, such as upcoming planning meetings, details will be posted on the Willowgrove School web page: http://www.spsd.sk.ca/school/willowgrove/Pages/default.aspx A tentative March meeting has been set for Thursday, March 6th at 7pm in the library at Dr. J.G. Egnatoff School. We had a great turn out for our Kindergarten Information evening on January 23rd, and families had the chance to meet our new Kindergarten teacher Nicole Lemstra. She truly has a passion for early learning and supporting our youngest students. We already have almost 60 Kindergarten registrations for the fall! Our teacher Librarian Laurie Hnatiuk has begun ordering books for our library, and will continue to purchase resources throughout the spring. She has a strong technology background and uses technology to help students develop their critical thinking and creativity. Rita Wall has been appointed as our Adminstrative Assistant. She comes to us from Brownell School, and will begin working in the Willowgrove office some time in February. Staffing for other teaching positions at Willowgrove School is in the works, and hopefully in the coming weeks more staff will be appointed.

Two more parent consultation meetings have been planned for the month of February. The dates are Monday, February 10th and Wednesday, February 12th in the library at Forest Grove School from 7pm – 8:30pm. The agenda will be the same both evenings, and we will have childcare both nights. We are looking to get parent feedback about various aspects of the school such as safety, school culture, programming, and before and after school care. A more detailed agenda will be provided closer to the meeting dates.

If you have any questions, please contact Shane Armstrong at WillowgroveSchool@spsd.sk.ca or by phone at 306-683-7971.

Take Care.
