New kinder-soccer/U6 Happyfeet Soccer Classes

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce a new program for children ages 2-5 called HappyFeet. HappyFeet is owned and operated by the ASTRA Soccer Academy and is designed to work in conjunction with SYSI Mini-Soccer. Please see the details below regarding HappyFeet.

Who: Classes for 2-3 year olds and 4-5 year olds

What: HappyFeet focuses on the acquisition of physical literacy and the development of gross motor skills while teaching children to master the ball from an early age. Through the use of stories, songs, nursery rhymes and childhood games, children begin to develop agility, balance, coordination, strength and flexibility. All classes are 30 minutes in length and each child has their own ball for the entire duration of the class. HappyFeet is essentially play time with a ball!

Where: New classes are constantly being added; visit to  view the most current class locations.

When: HappyFeet classes run one day per week for a six week period. Summer classes are weekday evenings, while winter and fall classes often run weekend afternoons.

Cost: $40.00 per six week block.

Holy Family Update June 17, 2014

Holy Family Staff– Staffing has been underway and we are blessed with a team of excited and talented individuals to begin our new school. At this time we welcome teachers Mrs. Kim Deibert, Mrs. Crystal Haynes, Mrs. Arlene Ostertag, Mrs. Sandra Weinheimer, Mrs. Rose Bodnar, Mrs. Dawn Blythe, Mrs. Melanie Lavallee-Usselman, Miss Nicole Syrota, Mrs. Tracy Bazylak, Mr. Andrew Penkala, Mrs. Anna Lorenz, Mrs. Michele Pokraka and Mr. Curtis Howe. The office coordinator will be Mrs. Jacqueline Anderson and Head Caretaker, Mr. Ron McLean. This is necessary whenever students change schools and enables us to determine staffing. During the contingency period, those families that have a child in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and no other children in Grade 4 to 8 you can register with Kelly’s Child Care Program (Kelly McCallen) at 306-251-1037 or 306-979-2066.

What: PotashCorp Soccer Kids In the Park Program
When: July 2nd – Aug 21st   Mon to Fri 11:00am – 5:30pm
Where: Travels to Various Playground & Youth Centre Sites Citywide
Cost: Free Drop-In for Ages 4 – 12 (Playgrounds) & Ages 12 – 18 (Youth Centres)

Some special aspects of the program are:

  • The four program leaders are certified coaches.
  • Focus is on instilling fun and being active through the largest growing sport in Canada ~ soccer!
  • The program will be travelling to all 45 neighborhood playground sites between 5 to 9 times each throughout the summer.
  • Focus is to bring soccer to the communities to eliminate transportation and financial barriers to sport!
  • Partnered with the City of Saskatoon playground and youth centre programs.
  • Program is fully funded by our major community sponsor PotashCorp and grants from the Community Initiatives Fund and the City of Saskatoon.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, crews will begin paving sections of College Drive westbound. The work will be done in phases and the crews will move along the roadway section by section with the project expected to last 6 days.

The work is scheduled to progress in the following sequence:

· College Drive westbound curb (outside) lane from the railroad track to McKercher Drive on ramp

· College Drive westbound curb (outside) lane from McKercher Drive on ramp to Central Avenue

· College Drive westbound median (inside) lane from the railroad track to Circle Drive overpass

· College Drive westbound curb (outside) lane from Central Avenue to Circle Drive underpass and College Drive westbound on ramp onto Circle Drive

One lane on College Drive westbound will remain open at all times. Crews will be working around the clock to accelerate the length of construction and minimize impact to traffic.

Residents are invited to cool off this summer at any of the 17 spray pads located around the city!  Summer spray pads will open for the season on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. and will be operational daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through to Monday, September 1, 2014.

The opening of Silverwood Heights Spray Pad, located in WJL Harvey Park (290 Russell Road), will be delayed due to maintenance repairs.  For updates on the scheduled opening, please refer to the interactive map at

Please note, spray pad sites located on or near school grounds have timers and are set to turn spray features off during recess and lunch breaks.  Shut-off times will vary according to individual school schedules.

Holy Family Update May 30, 2014

Holy Family Kick Off Barbeque– As we move closer to opening of our new school, our excitement for this great new facility and community grows. We will be hosting a come and go barbeque on June 5th (5-8pm) in Willowgrove Square. In the event of rain it will take place at St. Joseph High School. The Sasktel Mendel Art Caravan and Preston Early Learning will be providing activities for the children. The cost will be $3.00 per person, which includes a hotdog or hamburger, chips and a drink. Forms have been sent out; however, if you do not receive one, don’t worry and just show up at the bbq. A prize table and 50/50s will be available. This will be a great opportunity to celebrate, meet the staff and fundraise for our playground! A huge thank you to those parents who attended our recent meetings to brainstorm a variety of exciting family event to celebrate!
